Bryr Studio

Bryr Studio is based in San Francisco, CA and hand makes their highly curated collection of clogs. Each pair is, notably, made to order and sourced from American leathers and European woods. But if you’re unable to visit their SF showroom to test sizes and styles, it can feel like there’s an unusually high barrier to entry to test them out given their price point and strict exchange (read: no returns) policy. This summer they took their showroom on the road and hosted a series of Pop Up events to let followers test out styles in person. From July 12-14, 2019 they posted up at The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel in Portland, OR.

Bryr Portland Pop-Up

To say that the Bryr pop-up was a curated event would be an understatement. If it looks like an Anthropologie threw up in a clog factory, that’s because it did. But you know what? It was lovely. Every employee was helpful and friendly and impeccably styled. It was easy to find every style and size, and color swatches came in handy. Even better? If you found your perfect pair, you could place your custom order on the spot.

Customer service beyond compare

If you’re like me, you don’t throw down $276 lightly. If I’m spending money like that, it’s on a flight or an Airbnb. So while I felt more informed after attending the Bryr pop-up, I certainly wasn’t ready to throw down.

Cut to a few months later when I was ready to pull the trigger, but realized that the Tomato leather I had been oggling was no longer in season. I contacted them to inquire about a custom order if they had any leftover leather scraps, but unfortunately they weren’t able to accommodate one at the time.

Imagine my surprise and delight when they got in touch a couple months after that to let me know they had found some extra Tomato leather and would be happy to make me a custom order if I was still interested! When fate intervenes, you place that order.

Needless to say, I’ve officially reconsidered my threshold for spending $276: flights; Airbnbs; fated clogs.
